Overview

Pikey and Arun valley trek is a special non touristic of the lower Everest region, although a bit unpopular and less done trek compared to Everest base camp trek and Annapurna base camp trek of the west.
Pikey peak offers a magnificent sunrise view and a panoramic vision of more than dozens of snowy peaks lining up from east to west altogether.
Enjoy and experience the phenomenal and beauty of nature Nepal has to offer.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 : Kathmandu to Dhap (2932m)

Drive Time: 8 to 9 hrs

We begin our journey with a scenic drive from Kathmandu by private jeep to Dhap 8 to 9hrs driving and after reaching there over night at hotel.


Day 2 : Dhap to Jhapre (2820m)

Trekking time: 4 to 5 hrs

Today we embark on our trekking journey; if the weather clears, we can get the glimpse of Numbur Himal chain from the starting. We descend to Sigane and move uphill to Jhapre. Overnight at Jhapre.


Day 3 : Jhapre to Pikey Base Camp (4065m)

Trekking time: 6 to 7 hrs

After the breakfast, we will be heading towards Pikey Base Camp via Bhulbhule; we go along and amidst the beautiful rhododendron forest on the foothill of Taklung Danda, passing through some stone Mani walls & prayer flags on the way.


Day 4 : Pikey Base Camp to Loding (2484m)

Trekking time: 6 to 7 hrs

We rise early today so as not to miss the best sunrise view from the Pikey Peak; the highlight of this trek. One can get the glimpse of the mountains like Manaslu and Dhaulagiri from the west and Everest, Thamsekhu, Kanchenjunga, Numbur, Mera Peak, Gauri Shankar and many more of the eastern Himalayan peaks. After this we will move down and starts for Loding.


Day 5 : Loding to Salleri (2379m)

Trekking time: 5 to 6 hrs

From here, we walk down towards Solu Khola (river), get across on a suspension bridge and prepare to fire up to Salleri district headquarter of Solukhumbu. 


Day 6 : Salleri to Kaku (1806m)

Trekking time: 5 to 6 hrs

We again make an ascent to Ratnangey danda for about 3 hours, mountains peaks like Everest, Mera Peak, Thamserkhu, kusum Kangaru etc comes into display. We then descend through a sparse forest followed by the villages, the trails goes along the terraced farmlands all the way down to Kaku overnight stay at home stay.


Day 7 : Kaku to Waku (1700)

Trekking time: 5 to 6 hrs

Today’s trail takes us to the next hill or neighboring village of Waku. The path is slope at the beginning for around 1 hour and then we have to move down to Dudhakoshi Khola for another hour. We get across on suspension bridge and ascend to Waku through pine forest trail.


Day 8 : Rest day at Waku

An early morning sunrise at Waku is worth every hardship you faced while climbing up to the region. As the rays of the sun hit the mountain peaks, the gigantic Himalayas appear to be more appealing. The region is famous for its hospitable Sherpa people who treat their guests with warmth. We explore every trail of Waku today and admire the incredible ambiance of the place. 

Day 9 : Waku to Sotang (1557m)

Trekking time: 6 to 7hrs.

We climb up the trail from Waku which takes us through the scattered villages of Rai settlements passing through lush green forests at Sotang. The way of life and way of life of local people here merit encountering. Overnight at a lodge. 


Day 10 : Sotang to Bung (1900 m)

Trekking times: 4 to 5hrs.

After an early morning breakfast, we make our way to Bung. The trail ascends up passing through firs, shrubs and sparse rhododendron forests. Bung is another region that has scattered whitewashed Rai settlements. We enjoy the pleasant walk to Bung and stay overnight at a lodge.


Day 11 : Bung to Sanam (2850)

We make our way up from Bung. The day is again followed by dense rhododendron forests which grow alongside a few Mani walls and Stupas, making the area appear even more beautiful. After every step further up, you get a glimpse of the peak of Solu Khumbu at a far distance. Walking past damp forests, we reach Sanam. Overnight at a lodge. 


Day 12 : Sanam to Jaubari (2040 m)

Trekking time: 7 to 8hr.

We take our leave from Sanam early morning and start with a positive and energetic attitude as the climb is a little tedious today and demands hours of climbing. You come across a few ridge walks and slopes before reaching Jaubari. The strenuous walk is rewarded with an amazing view of the green steep hills and valleys. 


Day 13 : Jaubari to Gothebazar (775m)

Trekking time: 6 to 7hrs

En route Gothebazaar, we pass through many bamboo houses where Rai people and few people from other ethnic groups live as a community. We walk across gentle trails crossing a few rice paddies set on the bank of Arun Koshi River as we reach Gothebazar.


Day 14 : Gothebazar to Katikeghat (300m)

Trekking time: 7 to 8hrs

After a light meal, we take our leave from Gothebazar and stumble upon a trail that takes us to Katikeghat. The trail descends down passing through the banks of rivers alongside high rice terraces and Rai people settlements. We stay overnight at a lodge.  


Day 15 : Katikeghat to Tumlingtar (460m)

Trekking time: 7 to 8hrs.

We head out from Katikeghat. From here, we walk past Mangmaya Khola along the soft yet cool breeze as we finally reach Tumlingtar, also known as the gateway to Makalu region. Stay overnight at a lodge. 


Day 16 : Tumlingtar to Kathamandu

Flight from Tumlingtar to Kathmandu remote part of solukhumbu district where only way to ride small plane to Katmandu.
