Overview

Saribung trek and expedition is very popular and great adventure climbing of Nepal. Exploring and trekking in remote areas of Nepal to Saribung peak is a life time opportunity not to be missed. Saribung peak climb follows the trial of Upper Mustang and to Saribung peak, thus we can say this is a single package consisting of both Saribung climb and Upper Mustang trek. Saribung peak (6346m) lies on Damodar himal near to Damodar kunda.
March to May and September to November is considered as best season to Saribung climb. This is a strenuous trek that combines high peak and passes, glaciers, remote valleys and altitude variation which is very challenging, therefore only few trekkers has climbed to the summit. There is no such age restriction but one should be physically and mentally fit in order to participate in this climbing adventure. Saribung trek and climb starts with flight to Pokhara from Kathmandu and a connecting flight to Jomsom. From Jomsom we will pass through centuries old monasteries, remote track and upper Mustang. We will pass through jewel of Mustang, Lomanthang and Narphu valley to Saribung peak. Upon reaching Saribung peak you can have superb view of Mt. Himlung (7140m), Mt. Bhrikuti (6364m) and other peaks and mountain of Nepal and Tibet. Previous experience of ice axe and crampons is a huge advantage and for others we will have necessary training and arrangements. 

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 : Kathmandu to Pokhara (884m) Driving time: 7 to 8 hours hours

The mountain scenery along the drive looks like a magnificent amphitheatre of staggering scale and the scenes in the passing villages are astonishing. You will spend the night in Pokhara, which gives you the opportunity to enjoy the ambience of Lakeside, or have a short walk around the valley and check out the restaurants and shops. 


Day 2 : Pokhara to Jomsom flight and trek to Kagbeni (2,858m.) Flight time: 30 minutes trekking time: 4 hours

Early morning drive to airport and flight to Jomsom. Will see Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Tukuche, and more on your flight. We then start our trek following a trial which will lead us to bank of the Kali Gandaki River. Gradually you will reach to Kagbeni village for overnight stay.


Day 3 : Kagbeni to Chaile (3,050m.) Trekking time: 6 to 7 hours

After breakfast in early morning, we will start our trek from Kagbeni to Chaile. The trial will be steep up and downhill. We will then reach Tangbe village crossing fields of buckwheat, barley, wheat and apple orchards, we trek forward to Chhusang and after crossing the river. We head on to small ridges and reach at Chaile village. 


Day 4 : Chaile to Syangboche (3,475m.) Trekking time: 7 to 8 hours

Today, we walk further to Eklo Bhatti. We climb to Taklam La Pass (3,624m) through plateaus and narrow stretches that rewards with views of Tilicho Peak, Yakawa Kang and Damodar Danda. We move further the trail that goes above Samar village and to a stream. En route you can visit natural cave (chung-shi) related with Buddhist religion. Another 3 hrs of walk through juniper forest we reach to Syangboche


Day 5 : Syangboche to Ghaymi (3,520m.) Trekking time: 6 to 7 hours

After breakfast we trek uphill to the Yamda La (3,850m). Crossing through barley fields, mountain passes stupas; we climb to Nyi Pass (4,010m). We then descend to our overnight stop at Ghaymi which is the third largest village in the Lo region.


Day 6 : Ghyami to Charang (3,500m.) Trekking time: 5 to 6 hours

Today after breakfast we cross Ghaymi khola, the trail climbs to a plateau and passes beside a very long Mani wall. Following maze fields, willow trees and houses separated by stone walls we move forward to Charang village. We will also move through huge white Dzong and red Gompa.


Day 7 : Charang to Lo-Mangthang (3,700m.) Trekking time: 5 to 6 hours

Today we trek to Lomangthang, at first the trial descends to Charang Chu Canyon. We then walk steep up crossing the river. Further the trail ascends to Lo pass (3,850m) from here you can see the Lo-Mangthang Valley. After certain walk we will reach Lomangthan. We can stay at hotel or camp for the overnight. 


Day 8 : Rest day - Explore Lo-Mangthang

Today we explore the surrounding areas. You can visit Namgyal Gompa and Tingkhar. Or you may visit the Tall Champa Lakhang "God house" the red Thugchen Gompa, Chyodi Gompa, the Entrance Hall and the four- storey building of the Raja's palace which are the main attraction of this town. We can also visit the local king of Lomangthang. You can also watch panoramic views of the Himalayas and much more to rediscover.


Day 9 : Lo-Mangthang to Yara (3,900m) Trekking time: 6 to 7 hours

After breakfast we will trek to Yara from Lomangthang. The trial is mostly steep and passes through few settlements. We will also pass through Dhi gaon. It takes some 6 to 7 hours for us to reach Yara. Yara is a very significant place of Buddhist because Master Bodhisattva Padmasambhava is believed to have practiced his meditation here at Yara Ghara Gompa. 


Day 10 : Yara to Gumathanti (4,856m) Trekking time: 7 to 8 hours

Today we will trek to Ghumathanti. We will cross the 5100 meter pass and follow the uphill trial to Ghumathanti. It will take some 7 to 8 hours for us to reach there.


Day 11 : Ghumathanti to Parse khola Trekking time: 4 hours

After breakfast we will trek to Parse khola. We will cross the 5320 meter pass and enjoy the scenic views of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna I mountains. We will then descend down to Parse khola. It will take some 4 to 5 hours for us to reach there. 


Day 12 : Parse khola to Damodar kunda (4890m.) Trekking time: 4 to 5 hours

Today we will trek to Damodar kunda from Parse khola. We will chase the ascending trail to 5490m pass. After walking some 5 to 6 hours we will reach the holy Damodar kunda. We will stay the overnight at our camp. 


Day 13 : Rest day at Damodar kunda

Today we will rest and acclimatize because from here, there will be a drastic change in altitude. We will take a rest day so that our body gets familiar with changing altitude.


Day 14 : Damodar kunda to Japanese camp (4950m.) Trekking time: 4 hours

After breakfast we will trek to Japanese camp. The trial is steeply up and slippery so we will walk carefully. After 4 hours of walk we will reach there. Overnight stay at the Camp.


Day 15 : Japanese camp to High Camp (5600m.) Trekking and climbing time: 6 hours

Today we will trek from Japanese camp to High camp. The trail progresses uphill through the desolate terrain that is much similar to Tibetan plateau. We must also walk through ice for the whole day. After walking for 6 hours we will reach Saribung High camp and stay overnight at the foothill of Saribung peak.

Climbing Saribung is a very challenging task. So you will be provided with all necessary information and general training regarding climbing. And our guides and Sherpa will re check if all the gears and equipment for climbing are arranged if not arranged they will rent it or find a solution for it. 


Day 17 : High camp to Summit (6346m.) Trekking and climbing time: 9 hours

Today is a really big day for us because we will be summiting Saribung Peak today. We will slowly climb higher into the ever-thinning air. The trial is very slippery and difficult, so one must be really careful. We will slowly and carefully make our way to the top. After certain walk on the steeply, cold difficult trial the summit appears on a distance. We may attach to a fixed rope to reach the summit depending on the conditions. . Once we are here you can have an excellent view of Mt. Himlung (7140m), Mt. Bhrikuti (6364m) and other peaks and mountain of Nepal and Tibet. We will lower down to Saribung Base Camp and stay overnight.


Day 18 : Trek to Nogaru Trekking time: 7 hours

Today we will trek to Nogaru from the Saribung base camp. We will follow the snowy path before lowering down to the small river. After walking for about 6 hours we will reach Nogaru where we will stay overnight.


Day 19 : Nogaru to Phu Valley (4100m) Trekking time: 4 hours

After breakfast we will trek to Beautiful Phu valley. We will pass through chorten and ascend uphill and descend downhill towards Phu River. We will reach Phu valley after crossing Phu River. Phu valley is one of the most beautiful village and has a great monastery. We will stay the overnight.


Day 20 : Phu valley to Metha (3500m) Trekking time: 8 hours

Today we will trek to Metha after your breakfast. We will lower down to Kyang settlement from where we can view Jhunam, Chyakhu and ruined sites. After walking for about 8 hours through valley of moraines we will reach Metha. We will stay the overnight here. 


Day 21 : Metha to Koto (2605m) Trekking time: 8 hours

After your breakfast we will trek to Koto. We will descend downhill through pine woods and to a suspension bridge over a river. After crossing waterfall near Dharmasala we will reach beautiful koto village where we will find trial to Annapurna round.  We will stay the overnight here.


Day 22 : Koto to Dharapani Trekking time: 3 to 4 hours

Today is the second last final day of our trek so we will trek down at ease. Dharapani is located some 11 km far from koto village and will take 3 to 4 hours for us to reach there. We can fallow the rough road trail with the beautiful forest, village, river and farms to taking picture to walk down slowly.


Day 23 : Dharapani to Bhulbhule Trekking time: 5 to 6 hours

Today is the final day of our trek so we will trek down at ease. This last evening in Bhulbhule is an ideal opportunity for a farewell party with the Climbing Sherpa, Sherpa, Guide And Porters where we can sample some Chhang, Local wine (raksi), taste the local delicious food and look back on a memorable trekking and climbing experience. And you can dance in Resam firiri Nepali typical cultural most popular trekking song with your team.


Day 24 : Driving time: 9 to 10 hours

Driving time: 9 to 10 hours 

After your morning breakfast you will drive to Kathmandu with private vehicle which will take approximately 9 to 10 hours drive to reach Kathmandu. You can enjoy watching great landscape, rivers, villages, farms and beautiful mountain scenery and more on your drive.
